Overall, my experience at the hotel was average. The rooms were spacious but lacked a great view, and while the staff was helpful, the dining options were not as appealing as I had hoped. The onsen provided some relaxation, but the crowds diminished the enjoyment. Considering the price, I believe there are better options in the area.

Rooms
7.0
The room was a spacious Japanese-style tatami room, but it faced the parking lot instead of the more scenic views available on the other side.

The staff was quite helpful, assisting with our baggage and providing us with information about the area.
Location

The hotel is conveniently located near the cable car station, making it easy to access nearby attractions.
Dining

The buffet dinner had a decent variety, but the breakfast was disappointing with limited choices and slow replenishment.

The onsen facilities were available, but they felt too crowded during our visit, impacting our overall experience.

I had mixed feelings about my stay at Choyo Resort Hotel. While the onsen experience was splendid and the staff were helpful, I found the dining options lackluster and the cleanliness of the room below expectations. Overall, it wasn’t worth the higher price I paid compared to other experiences I've had.

Rooms
6.0
I was disappointed with the room facing the carpark; it lacked the impressive scenery I was hoping for. Although the room was spacious, the bathroom access was a bit cramped.
Service
7.0
The staff were generally helpful, with a shoutout to a waitress who stood out. However, I encountered a lack of responsiveness regarding the cleanliness issues I reported.
Location

Sounkyo is beautiful, but you really need a car to explore the area. While the location has potential, I wasn’t blown away by the view from my room.
Dining
5.0
The dining experience was disappointing. The buffet dinner options were not replenished and the breakfasts were limited to mostly breads and cakes.
Facilities
8.0
The onsen facilities were beautiful and tranquil, but the indoor shower areas could use better cleaning.

We had a pleasant stay at the hotel, which is close to attractions like the Sounkyo Ice Festival and Daisetsuzan National Park. The rooms were clean and comfortable, making for a relaxing experience. The buffet meals were decent but didn't quite meet expectations for value. Overall, it's a family-friendly resort with good amenities, but the dining experience could use improvement.

Rooms

The room was clean and comfortable, with everything functioning well, though it felt slightly older.
Service

The service was adequate, with staff being friendly but limited in English. We did appreciate their efforts in getting a taxi for us.
Location
8.0
The hotel is conveniently located near both the ice festival and the Daisetsuzan National Park, making it easy to explore the area.
Dining
6.0
The buffet breakfast and dinner had adequate variety, but the quality was hit or miss, especially since I arrived late for dinner.
Facilities

The public hot springs were well-kept and added to the overall resort experience.

This hotel offers a beautiful and serene experience, nestled in the forest with stunning views of a stream. The onsen facilities are fantastic, providing relaxation in a peaceful natural setting. However, the rooms could benefit from some updates, and if you end up on the wrong side, the view will be disappointing. Overall, it’s a lovely traditional experience, but be sure to request a forest view room.

Rooms
7.0
The room was spacious with traditional tatami flooring, but could use some renovations. I had a beautiful view of the forest and stream.
Service
7.0
The staff were polite and efficient, although their limited English made communication a bit challenging at times.
Location
6.0
The hotel is tucked away in a tranquil forest setting, offering beautiful views, yet it is far from the main town center.
Dining
7.0
The dining experience was good with a focus on Japanese cuisine, but it felt a bit touristy and didn’t fully meet my expectations.
Facilities
9.0
The onsen facilities were excellent, particularly the outdoor options that allowed for a relaxing soak in nature.

I had a comfortable stay at this hotel with access to a lovely hot spring onsen. The experience was pleasant overall, but the rooms faced a parking lot, and the dining options were just average for the price. The location offers beautiful autumn views nearby, but it's better suited for those with a car.

Rooms
6.0
The Japanese-style room was spacious, but the bathroom was quite tiny and a bit worn out for the price. The pillows were uncomfortable, and my room had a view of the parking lot instead of the beautiful stream.
Service
7.0
The staff were courteous, but communication was challenging due to limited English proficiency. They were helpful in arranging transportation.
Location
7.0
The hotel is located near some stunning spots for viewing autumn foliage, though it's quite far from the town center and requires a car for convenience.
Dining
5.0
The meals were decent but not enough to justify the price, and it felt more catered to tour groups than a high-quality dining experience.
Facilities
8.0
The onsen facilities were quite nice, offering a relaxing escape, but the indoor private onsen experience felt a bit disconnected from nature.
